OUR BELIEFS

Since February 13, 2005, Plymouth Church has been an Open and Affirming congregation. Since November 2016, we have been a Just Peace congregation in the United Church of Christ. We celebrate and find strength in our diversity and view it as a way to understand the inclusiveness of God.

UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST

Plymouth Church is part of the United Church of Christ, a denomination with a rich and storied history and a promising future. What's a denomination, you ask? Good question! A Christian denomination is a branch of the broader Church. Our denomination, the United Church of Christ (UCC) was formed in 1957 from the merger of several earlier denominations. The UCC is congregational in structure, meaning that there is ample space for variety of expression of church life, and that individual congregations are self-governing, given our own responsible autonomy. We are a people committed to social justice, progressive theology, and listening for the voice of a God that is still speaking and doing new things in our midst.

"That they may all be one." (John 17:21) "In essentials–unity, in nonessentials–diversity, in all things–charity." These UCC mottos survive because they touch core values deep within us. The UCC has no rigid formulation of doctrine or attachment to creeds or structures. Our overarching creed is of God’s boundless love made know through Jesus. Come and see what our congregation of the United Church of Christ is all about!

OUR MISSION

OUR PLYMOUTH CHURCH COVENANT

We are nurtured by God’s grace, challenged by Christ’s witness, emboldened by the Holy Spirit,
creating a true community.

Plymouth Church is a Christ-centered community led by the Holy Spirit that supports the spiritual journey of all who strive to boldly live out their faith in the world. We are committed to diversity, spiritual growth, and putting our faith into action locally and throughout the world.

We are Open and Affirming

Plymouth is an Open and Affirming congregation. We celebrate and find strength in our diversity and view it as a way to understand the inclusiveness of God. We welcome persons of any age, color, ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We embrace those of varying theological and political beliefs, and differing ethnic, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds. Our congregation joyfully welcomes all to join in worship, ministry, fellowship, leadership, sacraments and blessings. With God’s guidance, Jesus’ example and the Spirit’s inspiration, we commit ourselves to ongoing study, prayer, conversation and action, so that it may truly be said of Plymouth Church, “My house is a house of prayer for ALL people.” (Isaiah 56:7)
